I graduated!!

After Emilie's graduation Friday last week I spent the weekend not doing anything. My history teacher had said that it would be a good idea to "read up on the material we've been working with in class" but aaaarhh there was so much! After having studied so much for my other two exams and still done bad I was mentally done with all this exam nonsense and didn't want to study more as it would probably be a waste of time (according to my head). This time, if I didn't spend half a lifetime studying, at least I wouldn't have anything or anyone to blame than myself. So I didn't study. Simple.
But don't follow my example, kids! Do your best unless you are seriously prepared to face the consequences!

Monday morning came and we were a large group of students flooding the hallway outside the office. They called in each class separately so we could each 'pull' a topic we'd be talking about for the exam in history. And as soon as we had a topic, we had 24 hours to prepare in before the exam.
My exam was in the afternoon so I had about 29 hours AND THANK GLOB FOR THAT!!

I pulled 'the Age of Enlightenment and revolutions', was handed 14 pages of paper consisting of 10 different historical sources, and spent the first 12 hours (NOT exaggerating here. I looked at the time and it said 20.00 /8pm!) trying to understand them. I had to go as far as even translating them because ALL of them were written around the 1700's except one. For some reason I had Z-E-R-O notes on this topic from class.
I called Maria (Like I did during the SRP period) and complained about not understanding the sources or seeing their connection. Later that evening I came up with the questions I was going to use (for the first part of the history exam you must come up with 2-3 questions that you can answer using your historical sources AND knowledge from class) and went to bed. Only a few hours before the exam did I finish (with a LOT of help from Maria!).

My friend Maiken was the very first to have her exam and like a true saint she announced how super nice the examiner had been and what a good grade she'd gotten on our class's Facebook group short after.
By some freak turn of fate, the guy having his exam right before me had pulled the exact same topic. When he got out I saw him signal a low'ish grade to his friends and the moment we made eye contact he did the same hand signal as Sasha Baron Cohen when he wants people executed in The Dictator.
whyudothis?!? "#)%£*/¨¤ Ɛ= Ɛ= Ɛ= (;ノ⊙⌓⊙) ノ

The moment I sat down my teacher offered me a cup of water as they could probably tell how nervous I was and I clung to that cup with my life for the following half hour. But Maiken was right - both teachers were super nice! After having been sent out so they could discuss my grade, I came back in and my day (and average) was saved when they told me I'd gotten a 10 / B!
The moment I stepped out I was met by the curious eyes of 12 family members, Emilie, Maria, Søren, and Anne who had to take her exam after me.
It was in half disbelief that I announced my grade before Maria and I had an emotional run towards each other
These were some of the most relieving hugs ever! *Finally it was over!*

My classmates couldn't seem to agree whether the boyfriend/girlfriend of the student or a family member should put on the hat but apparently someone other than the student had to do it. I'd wanted to just put it on myself but my mom was quick to award my dad that job.
My dad is a soft man. He was shaking, trying to keep the tears back

Emilie handed me a lilly because "Everybody gives roses so I wanted to be special and give a lilly", she said

And then my family bombarded me with roses - so many that I almost dropped them and did a get-ready-for-impact face the moment my dad took the second picture

Søren had come to congratulate a guy from one of the other classes who finished his exam short before mine started and came over afterwards.
My family thinks Søren is suuuuuuuuch a cool person and asked for a picture of us. But instead of a huggy-huggy picture like with Emilie and Maria, Søren had to be Søren, grabbed me, and held me out on the opposite side of the banister - much to the entertainment of my family

We all walked to the cafeteria to sit down and enjoy a piece of the cinnamon pretzel that my grandma had made.
Aaaawh
Søren wasn't going to the party so he gave me a present at school - quite unexpected!

Of course we can't be in all of the pictures so have some of my cousin Peter and sister Emma
And my sister and our dad's cousins's girls (little) Emilie and Sofie
Peter's sister, Pernille, had seen a lot of other students taking pictures with the big stone chair in the main hall and wanted pictures of us too.

After that we split up. Some of them had to go home and get some food and we had to prepare for the party in the evening.
My brother was the grill-master
It was really nice and I got so many cool presents. All the guests wrote in my hat (it's a tradition to write little messages on the inside) and my friends bit the shadow of it as well - this is supposed to bring good luck!
Two days before the exam I'd started to get sick so in the evening I almost had no voice and my throat hurt so much. I'm sad that I couldn't be more entertaining than I was but it seemed like my different friends hit it off well and people said that they had had fun when they left so hopefully they all enjoyed themselves~

Turned twenty + Emilie's graduation

Since my last update post, I actually did get a haircut and my grandma and I also finished the dress!
I got a new passport as well since the old one had expired but wooah the new ones are so expensive because they also have our fingerprints in there somewhere -_-

Also TAKE NOTE ALL OF YOU WHO ARE ABOUT TO TRAVEL THIS SUMMER/FALL/WINTER that if you have already ordered flight tickets with a passport and then goten a new one for some reason, the passport number might have changed and your tickets could possibly be invalid. IF you happen to have gotten a new passport recently after booking flight tickets, make sure to contact the flight ticket company and have your information updated. Depending on which company you're going with, they might charge you (I'm looking at you, American Airlines). I contacted Finnair, the ones flying our Nordic group to Korea next month, and luckily they were cool and changed it without problems.

It took me some days to get over my last bad exam but recently I've been enjoying being 83,33% done with my exams and suddenly, 4 days ago, it was my birthday!
Unlike last year where I had to study for the exam, I got to relax on my birthday this year. We hadn't planned anything big. My parents had invited some family over + Maria as a special guest and Jasmin almost invited herself (I'm joking Jasmin, you know you're welcome here <3)

The only thing I'd wished for was money for my Korea trip and that was mostly what I got except for some candy from my first-cousin's kids, travel sized toiletries from Maria, and some shiny purple spheres (and money) from Jasmin. Oh! And shoes for graduation!

I was honestly overwhelmed by the amount of greetings I received. I haven't been too talkative lately due to school and what not so I hadn't expected much but my friends and family posted so many nice post on my Facebook wall and sent me the sweetest messages!
Khla posted a picture on Instagram that we took together when he visited us last month.
Chrille, the Danish Facebook blogger I'm following, even tagged my page in a post :O
But... the best surprise was definitely the sudden call from Philip
... which these two dorks had fun interrupting.

 Oh youuuu ~

The dorkiness is real with these two.
Perhaps you've heard about the belly button challenge that went viral in China and Korea recently?
We tried that.  It's probably going to be a thing to do something out of the norm on my birthday and film it from now on. Maybe you remember the pie throwing from my 18th birthday?

That day I got everything I'd wished for but a private concert with One OK Rock (inside joke). I really could not have imagined a better way to enter my 20s!

3 days later (yesterday) my best friend Emilie had her last exam.
Although the official graduation party is held on June 26th, you graduate the moment your last exam ends.
Following the tradition, I showed up outside the classroom she was having her exam in and met with her family, boyfriend, and a few of her classmates to wait for her to come out.
When she got out she announced her grade, her dad put on her student cap, and they all started taking pictures of her.
I must admit that I don't know what else to write now. I really cannot put words on what I felt at that moment. It was such a relief. My best friend had just graduated the gymnasium and I don't think I have ever been more proud of anything or anyone in my life than I was at that moment.
In the evening she held her graduation party for the family, friends, boyfriend, classmates, etc. and my parents and I joined that as well.

Exam rants

This is solely a rant post. If you're not having exams around this time, there is no reason for you to possibly spoil your mood by reading my rant and I suggest you move on to the next happy post HERE instead :)

Now that you were warned and still haven't left my blog it is possible that you are going through some struggles yourself with the exams.
If you have read my "about the blog" section or just been reading my blog for a while, you know that my blog is where I go when I need to let out some thoughts whether they be positive or negative. Today's post is an example of the latter.
There is no reason to complain like this to another person's face (unless you're already on the topic) but writing it down allows one to let out some steam and just get it out of the world. The other day I read a rant post about college scholarships by Jenny H and although we don't deal with the same problems, it was still refreshing to know that I'm not the only one who hates on school systems once in a while.
Perhaps reading my post will help you too if you're going through some exam struggles yourself. It's okay to feel frustrated. We can be frustrated together now and later in the future go back to this post and laugh it all off because in the end all this exam stuff probably didn't matter anyway~

I had my latest exam 10 days ago in Danish and it went bad. The exam wasn't bad itself and my teacher agreed with me almost all the time (you know, giving the nod of approval and supported my statements) but I still got a low grade and for the worst reasons ever!
The exam goes like this: You come in, shake your teacher's and the examinator's hand, pull a text (one you have never worked with in school but which still falls into one of the topics you've been working with the past 3 years) and its appendices, and then you have an hour to read and analyze the texts and prepare what to say during the exam.
But... do you remember what I wrote at the bottom of my last post?

"[...] skills within a subject (and last and most important grade) shouldn't be based on a sole performance (in which I risk picking a text from a literary period that I know nothing about because my teacher in 2nd grade didn't do her job and was fired)"

For the exam, your teachers write down all the topics that you've been working with during your time in the gymnasium and sends them to the examinator before the exam to let them know which fields you're expected to have knowledge within.
My current teacher happened to completely remove some of the literary periods and topics because we knew nothing about them due to my previous teacher not doing her job showing up for classes... and apparently removed so many that she had to add 1-3 extra topics (that we hadn't worked with and therefore had no knowledge within) in order to meet the requirements. And yes, I pulled one of those topics. Rap. I pulled RAP out of every possible topics. Postmodernism? Alright. Impressionism? Yea why not! Rap? NO. 0% knowledge!
Suddenly 1 hour isn't very much time and their reason for my low grade was that I wasn't "structured enough" (= didn't follow a list slavishly but rather pointed out the most important parts) and because I, although I did use it to get some points across and my teacher did agree with me on these(!), had minor troubles with one of the appendices. WELL OF COURSE I DID WE HAVE NOT BEEN TAUGHT ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SO WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?!??!?! aekfjeakjfhaejkfh I was mad. Okay, so it wasn't perfect. But because I didn't present my statements in the order they would have done it, it doesn't mean that they should automatically rule out all the other things I did right and ignore all the GOOD parts of my presentations. Their reasoning was irrational.
What also made me mad was the fact that my teacher was smiling, nodding, and agreeing 90% of the time, which lead me to think I didn't do anything wrong. So you leave the room for them to discuss your grade and when you get in.. SLAM! Everything you know is wrong. You are wrong. And your teacher knew it all along but did nothing to stop you or lead you back on track.
I like my teacher but felt deceived not to mention really stupid after that exam.

Update

Current status: 4 exams down, 2 more to go.

The first three were written exams and I have a feeling that the ones in Danish and Spanish went well (knock on wood). The one in English on the other hand... (˵¯͒ བ¯͒˵)
The other day I had my first oral exam. It was in AT and it went absolutely horrible. I did avoid last year's disaster though... by getting the next grade up. I'd gone to Jasmin's place the day before to spar with her, Siw, and Siw's boyfriend. That didn't work out. Apparently. BUT WHO CARES I'M FREE although my average went down so much omg
At first I was like:                                                                        but then...
NO MORE AT EVER AGAIN! WUUUUUUUUH!!!

Let's see what else...

I got my dress!
When you graduate from the gymnasium (No, it's not a gym. It's kind of like college), you get a hat and, as a girl, you wear a white dress around knee-length on the day of your last exam and on the official graduation day. I got my hat back in April (and dedicated an entire blog post to it) aaaand the dress I'd ordered arrived here some weeks ago. Now.. I'd ordered this dress:
Pretty, right?
I had never seen this type of 'lace' before and thought it was stunningly unique while still being simple enough to not be "too formal" for the occasion. I'd looked up countless of dresses but this one stood out particularly. I ordered it from eBay as I'd, until then, only had good experiences buying from there. When it arrived I looked like a tent in it and the disappointment was great. There was no way I'd look like that on such an important day and thus my mom and I went to a seamstress. Although she's an expert within her field she said that there wasn't much she could do as she didn't want to cut the lace. A zipper couldn't be added, she said. After a week I came back to pick it up and she'd made it a bit tighter around the stomach. Whatever. I was busy with exams around that time and had to worry about those instead of the dress.
After having screwed up my AT exam I went home and tried on the dress again to cheer myself up and remind myself that this would all be over soon. That was a horrible idea. I tried the dress on and STILL LOOKED LIKE A TENT albeit with a sliiiiightly smaller waist. At that point I could have started crying. There was nothing to do about the exam now but If I couldn't have the dress exactly how I wanted, I didn't want it at all - and then I might as well risk destroying it in an attempt to fix it.

My grandma helped measuring where the modifications had to be made but it took quite a while due to the lace and so we haven't finished yet. The seamstress had made us aware of a flaw at the bottom of the dress and since we had already started cutting/sewing, I couldn't return it to the seller. The partial refund I got was enough to cover the expense of the zipper. So that was great!

I could probably write half a page right now about how I dread these days doing nothing but waiting for the next exams. How my mind keeps trying to convince me that the exams are a waste of time as my skills within a subject (and last and most important grade) shouldn't be based on a sole performance (in which I risk picking a text from a literary period that I know nothing about because my teacher in 2nd grade didn't do her job and was fired). How I HATE the feeling of 'having to prove my worth' in front of others (I know very well where I stand) and thus feel demotivated about the exams. How I, at the same time, feel split between an 'I'm-500%-done' attitude and wanting to do my best because walking out of the exam room with a bad grade would be devastating enough for me to want to go hide in a hole and not come back before a week after...
but let's not get too far into that.

Instead, let me end the post on a more positive note saying that I want a haircut; to symbolize a new start and get rid of the dead ends that have been bothering me for too long . They won't do me any good anyways in the future so I might as well get rid of them, right? ㅋㅋㅋ
Literally and metaphorically
